“Waiting out the Rain” is a stark hommage to Roma culture in modern Kosovo. In this exhibit, Swiss photographer, Ester Vonplon, pairs her own photographs with those taken by the Roma children that she befriended while teaching photography workshops in Rahovec/Orahovac, a village in the South of Kosovo.
This work successfully documents the biting realities of a post-war environment through the eyes of an objective outsider and those of the people who experienced the war first hand. The work melds into an honest account of everyday life that is both heart wrenching and boldly human.
Along with the photographs, Vonplon will present a slide show of additional images from her time in Kosovo. The presentation will be accompanied by violinist, Erica Dicker, and electronic musician, Ryan Ingebritsen, The duo will be interpreting the images in real time incorporating field recordings captured by Vonplon during her stay in Rahovec/Orahovac.
