Lumpen 114

February 3, 2010 by Jeremiah

We’ve spent the last week slamming this issue together, and it feels good to be done. Amongst all the other stuff going on at Plural, it’s a really great change of pace when Lumpen comes in. We don’t have too many projects that enter our lives so chaotically and leave before we’re finished. Most of our design decisions are made quickly, and our critiques usually revolve around the question: Why not? It’s a great opportunity for us to explore what we’re into at the moment, try things out, let things fail, and move on.

We’re thankful for Edmar and his DIY publishing co-op constantly printing materials for the past 2 decades. He may be printing your favorite magazines, he may be printing your most hated and you may say, “this publication sucks”, but what are you doing about it? We’re doing something. It reminds of me of what Professor JoĆ«rg Becker once told me, if you sit down and try to only make 3 brilliant pieces, you may never succeed, but if you sit down and make 100 shitty pieces, at very least, 3 of them will be brilliant.

(I may have phrased that poorly, but you get the idea, make stuff, constantly. Don’t worry about making everything the best thing you’ve ever done, you’ll never succeed that way.)

Dropping Friday, hopefully.
