Irma Boom

Another great video of Dutch book designer Irma Boom, taking a close look into her process and philosophy.

I’m mad about books, but I hate handmade books. They have to be industrially made. A book which has been made by hand, showing traces of handicraft, to me is hideous, really disgusting…Books are made to spread information. They’re reproductions, so they should be distributed around the world in multiples.

The Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation

Saturday, November 6, 2010.

Focusing on abstract animation and unconventional character animation, three programs of short films will showcase a range of styles and techniques in work from the 1970’s to present.

The Classic Shorts program (1:00 pm) features 16mm works from the 70’s-90’s. The New Shorts program (3:00) includes new short experimental works from 2007-2010.  At 7:00 pm, festival guest David O’Reilly, in town from Berlin, will present a program of his award-winning animation, including a preview of his brand-new piece, The External World (which just won Grand Prix at this year’s Ottawa Animation Festival). Throughout the day, selected works will play on a continuous loop on monitors in the lobby. Full details on these programs can be found on the Eyeworks website.

The festival features work from several notable Chicago animators, including Chris Sullivan, Jim Trainor, Lisa Barcy and Matt Marsden. Eyeworks is organized by Lilli Carre and Alexander Stewart.
