The Artist’s Talk As A Disappearing Act (With Live Video Feed)

…In which the artist performs a televised lecture regarding the seven works currently on display in his solo exhibition, Uh-Oh It’s Magic. Possible topics to be discussed include: working under the influence, phenomenological states, animism, optics and subjectivity, levitation, cultural relativism, and rainbows. The notion of “losing oneself in one’s work” will be demonstrated materially during the course of the lecture and subsequent Q&A.

Abstract Location

March 28, 2011 by Jeremiah

AndrewRafaczGallery000426

ABSTRACT LOCATION
Saturday / April 2 / 2011
COUNTRY CLUB | CHICAGO at ANDREW RAFACZ
4:00 – 7:00pm

featuring works by Steven Bankhead, Katarina Burin, Fritz Chesnut, Jacob Dyrenforth, Freeman & Lowe, and Ryan McGinness. The exhibit continues through May 14, 2011.

The artists featured in Abstract Location use abstraction and re-presentation as a way of examining the physical world, offering everyday experiences and images but in skewed and difficult to define spaces. The idea that our senses can provide ways to view and construct as well as deceive our logical thoughts drives this creative process. Whether it is a hallucinatory experience as in Ryan McGinness’ Black Holes, or Freeman & Lowe’s examination of aesthetic constructs, Abstract Location looks externally for inspiration from abstracted forms and concepts.

Art installation to illuminate Cabrini-Green

March 25, 2011 by Jeremiah

from ChicagoTribune:”On the eve of its demolition next week, the last standing high-rise affiliated with the Cabrini-Green public housing project will be illuminated with 134 LED lights, one in each of its vacant apartments, programmed to blink in “conversation” with one another — with the goal of speaking to the experiences of former residents. Lights will fall as the building does during its month-long razing, scheduled to begin March 30.”
